Interview with Adrian Garcia, Intern

We have begun a high school internship program at Amtex Precision. We believe in giving young people an opportunity to see the industry first hand, and to learn whether or not this career might be right for them.

This is Adrian Garcia, a senior in high school enrolled in manufacturing classes. He has many hobbies, including an enjoyment of fixing things. To learn more about Adrian, read his interview below.

Interviewer: All right. So starting off, what is your name and grade?

Adrian: Adrian Garcia. I’m a senior.

Interviewer: Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?

Adrian: I’m more of hands on person. I like learning and improving my skills and knowledge. I’m open to any options, working in anything.

Interviewer: Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work?

Adrian: I like just fixing things and working on stuff, being busy.

Interviewer: Have you had any previous jobs before AM techs?

Adrian: Yes, in pipeline with my dad, NC contractors.

Interviewer: What led you to enroll in the manufacturing classes at JBH?

Adrian: I saw that you use your hands and tools and it looked interesting.

Interviewer: What do you enjoy most about manufacturing?

Adrian: I think just learning and improving, and seeing what you could do.

Interviewer: When did you realize you had an interest in manufacturing and welding?

Adrian: Whenever I started fixing things; it felt more interesting. I like doing more stuff like that.

Interviewer: How old were you in number you started doing that?

Adrian: I’ll say 14, 15.

Interviewer: Do you remember the first project that you helped fix?

Adrian: It was a 81 Chevy truck. I helped fix it with my dad.

Interviewer: After high school, do you plan on enrolling in a trade school or college?

Adrian: I plan on going to college.

Interviewer: What do you want to study?

Adrian: I want to be a civil engineer or mechanical engineer. Either or.

Interviewer: What type of work do you see yourself doing?

Adrian: I would say engineering because I’m good with numbers and math. I also like hands on things.

Interviewer: What motivates you when you’re working?

Adrian: I just go. I’m not too sure of that answer.

Interviewer: Well, whenever you get to a job of any kind that you’re going to do, when you get there, is there any particular thing that’s going to make you do a little bit better job than if you just show up with no instruction or no guidance?

Adrian: I think like when I’m working with others, like it’s a competition. You see who does better. It starts motivating me. Something to get a little bit more interesting.
