Interview with Idel Meadows, Intern

Next up in our lineup of high school interns, Idel is a senior that is getting his first work experience in our program. He is very excited to get experience in the field of engineering and manufacturing. Here’s more about Idel.

Interviewer: So first off, what is your name and what grade are you in?

Idel: I am Idel Meadows and I am in 12th grade.

Interviewer: Tell me a little bit about yourself, like your hobbies or interests.

Idel: We have a construction group and I like helping in the construction group at our church. I’m interested in engineering, like architectural where we could build, we can construct, we can work like in teamwork and like construct up or like schools, hospitals for the community. Stuff like that.

Interviewer: Have you had any previous jobs before working at Amtex?

Idel: No sir.

Interviewer: Do you have any other hobbies that you like to do? Like any sports or games or anything?

Idel: Well I like sound systems of like music or microphones. I’m in charge at my church. Like I manage all those instruments. I mean multimedia and I like to practice the guitar, I’m learning and I want to improve.

Interviewer: Okay. So you’re big into your church.

Idel: Yes sir.

Interviewer: You spend a lot of time doing church type activities?

Idel: Yes sir. We have a lot of youth events, a lot of gatherings. Times that we go out to the city and foods in church and gather just family time with the church.

Interviewer: Okay. What led you to enroll in the manufacturing classes at JBH?

Idel: Well, I like engineering, like I said, I’m taking some courses in Melbourne High School of Engineering of CA and POE, two classes at the same time. And I’m also interested on the construction field so I can contribute for the community to build. I want to be engineer, constructional engineer so I can be able to build buildings for the community, for children, and not only in the United States, but also in places like bridges for people that need to cross to, that are like isolated or schools or hospitals and buildings like that.

Interviewer: Okay. What do you enjoy most about manufacturing?

Idel: Oh, I enjoy how, well first, I enjoy how the teamwork and like how the workers treat each other like really close like family there. I see how like in Amtex they are really friendly. They’re very kind. They don’t like see over our shoulder. They see you like as a friend, like a partner, as a worker. And I love how it’s different things we could work on and manufacture like Amtex, we get to do many things as grinding or, doing hose cutting. There’s different things we could do and I love the different stuff that is done.

Interviewer: So you prefer a variety of work as opposed to doing the same thing all the time?

Idel: Yes sir.

Interviewer: Okay. When did you have a, when did you realize that you had an interest in welding or manufacturing?

Idel: Well, I would say that the interest I had was we had a side job and we had to build a fence for this lady, that in our neighborhood. She needed a fence. So, my brother wanted some help. So welding I helped a little, I don’t know so much but with that I wanted to help and it’s metal. So with that I’m learning and that led me to construction and well the practicum class, which I’m in right now. And then Amtex I was given the opportunity to enter.

Interviewer: How old were you when you did the fence building?

Idel: It was recently, it’s a year ago we began and we, it was a pretty big fence and done by now.

Interviewer: Okay. After high school, do you plan on enrolling in a trade school or college?

Idel: Yes sir. I want to do something close by from here, like Alvin Community College or something. I don’t have to go so far because I also have the church cause, the church means a lot to me and I want to be a close distance to my family and maybe, I do the basics there and find a job that’s according to my studies and that I did in high school.

Interviewer: Okay. What area do you want to study when you do go to school?

Idel: I was thinking of going in engineering first, after getting my basics because I know it takes a while, but little by little I want to do like online courses or go to an Institute and go find a field of architecture as well.

Interviewer: Then what type of work do you see yourself doing?

Idel: I see myself doing like planning blueprints or computation, designing buildings or landmarks.

Interviewer: Okay. What motivates you when you’re working?

Idel: What motivates me is, well the daily routine that we can, we wake up and I get to do, I get to go to go work and work. We do different things and I like how, I mean, just being around people motivates me to keep working on like a daily basis or we need to work to have daily hold our life, so that as well.

Interviewer: All right. Well, thank you.
